In FY2022, SAKI awarded the Arkansas Department of Public Safety (DPS) $1 million to support ongoing efforts to collect, submit, and process lawfully owed DNA samples. A previously conducted state census identified 42,000 arrested or convicted individuals who qualified for CODIS entry, including 2,800 individuals directly connected to sexual offenses. Arkansas DPS will develop a multidisciplinary task force to lead the collection effort and also enhance their Sample Tracking and Collection Software (STACS) system to optimize tracking these samples.

Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aims to create a coordinated community response that ensures just resolution to sexual assault cases. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits.
