Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) GranteeOklahoma Office of the Attorney General

Image of Grantee title

The Oklahoma Office of the Attorney General (OAG) was awarded $2,398,302 in SAKI funding in FY2019 to develop a multidisciplinary team to guide the grant project's functions; these functions include reviewing current legislation, policies, and protocols to develop statewide policies and procedures about handling sexual assault kits (SAKs). The OAG is working to complete an inventory of all unsubmitted SAKs and to complete testing of a subset of unsubmitted SAKs by the end of FY2020. The OAG plans to collaborate with local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys' offices on the process for reopening cases for prosecution once they begin to test SAKs. Since their grant began, the OAG has hired a site coordinator, SAKI investigator, and victim advocate. Finally, the OAG has developed a Victim Services Advisory Group that is currently working to develop policies and procedures for a victim-centered approach to victim notification.
