Sexual Assault Response: A Pillar of Law Enforcement Agencies' Violent Crime Reduction Strategy

Research shows that serial sexual offending is widespread and that most sexual offenders commit a variety of crimes, including violent offenses. For these reasons, the implementation of a plan to reduce violent crime in an agency's jurisdiction should include an effective response to sexual assault. Testing sexual assault kits and other evidence will assist in efforts to effectively prevent future violent crime.

Supervising a Sexual Assault Unit

Our Mission

Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aims to create a coordinated community response that ensures just resolution to sexual assault cases. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits.
