TOOL
Testing forensic evidence or searching CODIS may not lead to identifying a suspect. Sexual assault investigations can still move forward, even without a CODIS hit. Forensic analysis is one tool investigators can use to build a case or identify leads. This document offers an overview of investigative techniques that can be used regardless of the status of forensic evidence. Investigators and others can use this tool to learn how to use investigative strategies to move forward with cases.
Resolving Cases Without DNA, Specialized Investigative Skills for Sexual Assault
Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aims to create a coordinated community response that ensures just resolution to sexual assault cases. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits.
