Victim Advocacy for Cold Case Sexual Assault: Developing a Work Plan

As part of the multidisciplinary teams or working groups, cold case victim advocates increase support for sexual assault survivors and strengthen cases. Victim advocacy in a jurisdiction’s cold case sexual assault initiative can help provide a path for proceeding in a victim-centered, trauma-informed way. Developing a work plan helps focus ideas and determine the steps to develop strategies for providing services and care to victims of cold case sexual assault.

Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aims to create a coordinated community response that ensures just resolution to sexual assault cases. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits.
